Earlham College waiving deposits, awarding additional financial aid for new students with high need

In response to economic uncertainty over COVID-19, Earlham College is waiving its usual $250 deposit requirement for new students, extending the deadline for enrollment decisions, and offering additional scholarships to applicants with high financial need.
“We recognize the overwhelming challenges and uncertainty that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on students and their families,” said David Hawsey, vice president of enrollment management. “We want to do everything we can to make an cation as affordable as possible. Despite these unprecedented times, we are still preparing to welcome a strong, academically talented class of new students in the fall."
The deadline to confirm enrollment decisions with the Office of Admissions has been extended to June 1. Students who have already paid the $250 deposit fee will receive a credit on their account.
The College also is awarding additional financial support called “Earlham Cares” grants for applicants with high demonstrated financial need. Eligible admitted students for this additional funding will receive updated financial award letters by e-mail soon. In addition, $1,000 grants are being made available to admitted students living in the Richmond, Indiana, area. Counties include Wayne, Randolph, Henry, Fayette, and Union in Indiana and Darke and Preble in Ohio.
The College also has notified admitted students that spring semester grades, which are likely to be impacted by the sudden shift that high schools were forced to make to online learning, will not affect prior admissions decisions.
“We anticipate spring 江苏快3预测 semester grades to be different and that many final exams will be changed or canceled,” said Susan Hillmann de Castañeda, Earlham director of admissions. “We know that this is beyond a student’s control. We are working with them to navigate these uncertain circumstances.”
In following state and federal action to stop the spread of COVID-19, the College has canceled in-person classes and college-sponsored events and travel for the remainder of the spring semester and summer terms.
All employees have been required to work from 江苏快3预测 with the exception of designated, “essential personnel” responsible for maintaining campus operations, ensuring business continuity, and supporting students who have been unable to return 江苏快3预测.
